Beach Cleanup with Plastic Free Seas

The beach cleanup event was a success! Over 30 participants took part in the event and according to Plastic Free Seas, the organizer, we achieved remarkable results with the following waste removed from the beach and the rocks at Sam Pak Wan, Discovery Bay in 2 hours on 18 March:

  • 68 kg of waste
  • 77 plastic bottles (66 recyclable)
  • 10 masks

Event Highlights

Participants were divided into smaller groups to clean up different sections of the beach.

Founder of Plastic Free Seas, Dana, was teaching the kids to distinguish organic waste such as seaweed.

Plastic waste in the ocean were broken up into microplastics and washed up onshore endangering marine life.

Dana and the participants were categorising the plastic bottles.

Marine creatures such as crabs and jelly fish were found at the beach during the clean up.

In her debriefing remarks, Dana urged participants to reduce plastic waste in daily life.
